I.    Read James 1:19-21

A. What instruction did James give about the relationship between speaking, listening, and anger?

B. How do displays of anger and temper affect the witness of a Christian?  

C. In what sense is God’s Word planted in us? How does this implanting take place?


II.    Read James 1:22-24

A. How do believers deceive themselves by just listening and not acting on God’s message?

B. What might be the effects in the life of a person who reads the Bible week after week but never puts any of the truths into practice?

 

III.    Read James 1:25-26

A. What promise does James give to the person who studies God’s Word and practices it?

B What does it mean to be blessed in what you do?

C. How does our speech reflect our relationship with God?


IV.    Read James 1:27

A. What is pure and faultless religion?

B. What does it mean to “keep oneself from being polluted by the world”?  

C. What is so significant about having a desire to care for orphans and widows? Why would James highlight it as a mark of genuine faith?
