What’s Love Have To Do With It?
(The sacrificial nature of love)

In the story of the Beauty and the Beast, how is love demonstrated?
The overall theme of our weekly midweek study is, “The Necessity Of The Cross”. Why was the cross necessary?
What compelled God to give us the gift of his son? Consider the following passages.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 4:9
In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

What do the following passages tell us about the power of God’s love in Jesus?
1 John 3:16
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
Romans 5:8
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 10:17-18
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

How are we to apply this to our lives as people of faith?
Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
Ephesians 5:2
And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
1 John 3:10
By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
John 5:12
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
